Our Commitment to the Global Environment

For nearly a decade, the Roland organisation worldwide has been proactive in establishing environmentally sound business practices that have both reduced the environmental impact of its products and led to the adoption of cleaner, more energy efficient manufacturing practices. Our achievements include:

ISO Compliance

Compliance with ISO Environmental Standards

Every Roland product today is designed and manufactured through processes that meet ISO 9001:2008 standards. These standards require the company to:

  • Prevent global warming
  • Use recyclable resources
  • Increase environmental awareness
  • Disclose information on the environmental attributes of the product

Global Environmental Standards

The heart of this initiative has been the development and implementation of Roland's unique "Digital Yatai" manufacturing model, a revolutionary cell-based system that is entirely paperless and driven in part by solar panels assembled by employees to save energy. At the design level, Roland has procedures in place that introduce life cycle assessment (LCA) and promote the development of environmentally-conscious products. Roland products introduced after September 1, 2007 also feature the company's ECO-labels which meet ISO 14021 standards for Type II labeling by clearly communicating the environmental attributes of every product to consumers.

ECO-SOL Ink and Media Range

Roland DG is widely recognised for pioneering the development of the Eco Solvent revolution with the launch of its popular Eco-SOL then the advanced ECO-SOL MAX™ ink range to preserve the environment while maintaining the highest quality standards. ECO-SOL MAX™ is virtually odorless, and does not require any special ventilation or environmental equipment. More about ECO_SOL MAX™ Inks.

The new Eco-MEDIA range of solvent medias hosts a variety of medias specifically designed to work with Eco-Solvent printers with BIODEGRADABLE substrates to replace traditional PVC substrates. View the ECO-Media range.

Cartridge Recycling

Roland's cartridge disposal and recycling program joins a host of initiatives worldwide designed to decrease the environmental impact of the company's operations. Roland DG collects empty ink cartridges returned by customers, and delivers these empty cartridges in bulk to Close the Loop® to recycle, with zero waste, to landfill. Roland will continue to embrace new environmental initiatives that are in keeping with worldwide standards. We welcome this business challenge and the positive impact our efforts will have on the environment. For more information on our environmental activities, read our Annual Environmental Report.
